The Intermediate Years

Serving Grades 4 through 7

At South Tulsa Academy, the intermediate years are a pivotal bridge. This is where students transform from guided learners into independent thinkers. We combine increased academic rigor with a supportive environment that encourages students to take the lead in their own educational journey.

A Roadmap to Independence

As students progress from 4th to 7th grade, we intentionally shift the primary responsibility for assignments and teacher communication to the student. This

"student-first" approach, backed by vital parent support, ensures our graduates are organized, accountable, and ready for the challenges of high school.

Our Curriculum: Reasoning & Rigor

We utilize a blend of world-class resources to ensure a biblical worldview and academic

excellence.

  • Core Disciplines: For ELA, Literature, Science, and Social Studies, we primarily utilize BJU Press, supplemented with curated materials to provide a well-rounded perspective.

  • Mathematical Mastery: We use Eureka Math , a program that moves beyond memorization to focus on deep mathematical reasoning and complex problem-solving.

More than a Classroom

The Defender Culture

Community isn't just a word here—it’s how we live. As students mature, they enjoy expanded opportunities to connect, lead, and serve:

  • Defender Recharge: A unique hybrid of outdoor activity and advisory periods. It’s the "grown-up" evolution of recess, designed to refresh the mind and body on campus days.

  • Traditions: Intermediate school students will enjoy new school traditions like an annual School Social and Christmas Celebration, making time and space for joy.

  • Servant Hearts: Continued community service projects ensure our students grow in character as much as they do in knowledge.

  • Leadership Opportunities: Intermediate school students will have the opportunity to be part of a student leadership team as well as serve in various servant-leader roles in the school, encouraging younger students through leading by example.

A Christ-Centered School Experience

A Christ-centered education experience that helps shape a student’s identity in Christ, while also preparing them for the world and culture. We partner with parents to provide an opportunity for discipleship relationships to thrive with their children in the special phase of growing independence and developing faith in Christ.

  • Chapel: A time of worship and learning what God’s Word says about the Christ-like character traits that are encouraged each month.

  • Global Missions: Monthly prayer-time for unreached people groups around the world.

  • Bible Study: In depth study of God’s Word with other students to plant seeds of the Gospel and develop greater knowledge of who God is and how His Word applies to their lives.

  • Scripture Memory: In addition to studying God’s Word, students are encouraged to memorize passages from the Bible each semester.

  • Character Development: As students learn about who God is they are encouraged to live out their lives in a way that glorifies and honors Him. Each month a character trait focus is given to teachers and parents to inspire students to develop Christ-like character out of love-filled obedience to God.

  • Parent Training: Parent trainings are provided two times a school year to provide fellowship opportunities and intentional content to guide parents on their discipleship journey.
